Astronomy Instructor
Bellevue College
Redmond, Washington, United States
I'm Guadalupe (Lupe) Lizana, and I'm an Astronomy Faculty at Bellevue College (BC) in Washington State. I did my Bachelor in Astronomy in Chile (where I'm from), and then I did my Master's degree in the Netherlands. I started my PhD in Toronto, Canada in 2019, but we all know what happened in 2020, and I realized that research wasn't for me. I ended up not "succeeding" in my PhD, but that led me to do outreach in social media and to a job I truly enjoy doing, which is teaching and showing astronomy to young people, plus I get to teach in a planetarium! I've been working at BC for a year and a half, and I have great colleagues, an amazing work environment and I have learned so much about astronomy that I didn't learn (or remember) in my career. I'm excited to start making new connections with other astronomy instructors or people that are passionate about the field!
