Abstract: It is evident that a significant and increasing portion of the public is illiterate about modern science. This has led to confusion, skepticism, unwise decision making - even outright denialism. The importance of reversing this trend cannot be overstated. Informal educators need to “up their game” in response to this challenge.
By employing techniques borrowed from Informal Interpretation, using hands-on activities designed for specific audiences, and identifying and measuring well defined objectives - the outreach astronomer can have a greater and wider impact while addressing this problem. In this presentation we will explore the techniques and activities that the non-profit organization Science Heads Inc. has employed at its outreaches.
