Raymond Zich has taught astronomy and physics at the Illinois State University and other institutions for 25 years. He is a discipline-based education researcher working in the fields of astronomy, physis and science education, with interests in cognition, student issues with graphical and pictorially presented data, eye-tracking, grounded cognition, affordances, active learning, and computation. He currently leads a team of undergraduate students conducting research in DBER in STEM education.
He has experience in curriculum design and best practices in evaluation and assessment, and is interested in STEM education and teacher preparation, having participated in the physics teacher education program at Illinois State University for several years physics education research. He promotes the use of discipline-based education research and research-based instructional strategies (RBIS) in STEM education.
