2B - Using Astronomy Education Simulations: Make-and-Take

Abstract: In recent years, hundreds of browser-based astronomy-related simulations have been made available by dozens of groups and individuals. Their broad accessibility and interactivity support many modes of educational usage such as integration with pre-class preparation, to provide in-class demonstration and visualization, or by students to simulate data collection and model comparison.

In this 50-minute participatory workshop we will provide a broad overview of astronomy education simulations and where to find them, discuss three use cases and complementary materials (such as accompanying instructions or graphics), and provide guided discussion in breakout rooms for participants to develop plans for using an astro-education sim in their upcoming teaching.
