Abstract: According to AIP Statistical Research, the number of bachelors degrees awarded in astronomy has risen sharply over the last decade. Every year, undergraduate astronomy professors commiserate about the lack of opportunities in summer internships and graduate school spots for truly stellar students. How can astronomy educators outside of the major research institutions prepare students for this reality? Are we being creative enough in exploring the career opportunities for astronomy-interested students? How can astronomy education research focus on the needs of upper level undergraduate learning in astronomy and astrophysics? What does it take to get into graduate school in astronomy these days? What has your experience been?
