Abstract: In the spring of 2024, we offered an online course about the eclipse that was open to community members, as well as students (on a credit/no-credit basis) and campus employees. Collecting and curating resources according to weekly themes, our course aimed to present the science of eclipse in conjunction with explorations of eclipses’ impact on history and culture. Assignments included opportunities for discussion and creative reflection, as well as ways for participants to check their understanding of key science concepts. Furthermore, we involved members of our campus in content production in various ways to give the course a more community feel. We’ll present about our experience in running this course, our methods for allowing multiple levels of engagement with the course, and review outcomes and feedback from the course. We will also discuss how we aim to follow-up on feedback from this course for designing future community-engaging courses on other science topics.
